Perseverance and Commitment Pays Off

Stephen Wade knows it's never too late to learn.

He currently juggles a full-time job as a cook while helping to care for his two-year-old son and attending evening upgrading classes in math and English.

"My son was the motivation," said Stephen, 27. "Having a child opens your eyes to more than just you. You want to be a good role model.

The heavy workload is in pursuit of meeting the entrance requirements for the Electrician Program at Mohawk College.

"I didn't graduate from high school," said Stephen. "There was a lack of motivation for school then. I started working full time at 17."

Ten years later, he is drawing on the support of college faculty to help him transition to the electrician program.

"Stephen has demonstrated great courage in returning to school," said Judith Amesbury "He is a great example of how perseverance and commitment can help us all move forward."
